Press Release Body: Peak District Hotel and restaurant The Maynard is undergoing an ambitious and radical overhaul. The six figure room refurbishment has now started, with the hotel's 10 rooms closed for a total revamp which will see the 100 year old building transformed into what is believed to be the only genuine boutique hotel in the heart of The Peak District.
Local design firm Oulsnam Design of Bakewell have been contracted for the fit-out, which will see each of the 10 double en-suite rooms converted from typical country house type accommodation into individually styled contemporary chic rooms.
Paul Downing, director of The Maynard, said: "Partly we are doing it out of necessity. The rooms were becoming a bit jaded and they looked out of kilter with the restaurant refurbishment. Added to that, the 100 year old plumbing had reached the end of its natural lifespan and we felt that the overall experience of staying in our rooms was falling far short of that offered in the new restaurant.
"We always planned to refurbish the rooms eventually, but we hadn't necessarily planed to do it so soon, to spend so much money, or to make such a bold statement as we are doing. We just feel that in a competitive market you need clear differentiation and there really is nothing like this for miles around; we believe the Peak District is crying out for a genuine boutique hotel that can come up to national standards of accommodation, facilities and service.
"It is a very exciting time and we can't wait to see the finished rooms. We are also giving the ballroom a decorative facelift so by the time the project is finished we will have refurbished the entire public area of the building and hopefully created a modern environment fitting of such a brilliant location."
The Maynard restaurant and bar is open for food and drink throughout the refurbishment. The new rooms are available to book with effect from early March, which is the planned re-opening date. For further information on The Maynard call 01433 630321.
